Benefits to the Athletes

  •  Earn AVP points at the completion of each tournament to support entry/seeding in AVP Tour events 
  •  Become eligible to represent the North West in the main draw of the 2015 AVP Manhattan Beach open
    •  The team with the highest cumulative point total at the end of the zonal series will receive a wild card in to the most prestigious tournament in the U.S., the Manhattan Beach Open.
    • Winning team will also receive a travel stipend to assist with the cost of attending the tournament
  •  Play in multiple, high-level tournaments throughout the spring and summer against top competition
  •  Inclusion in the AVP National Volleyball Player Ranking system
  • Receive national recognition through marketing, public relations and social media efforts by AVPNext and the AVP


Competition Regulations
  • Series will be a 2-on-2 beach volleyball competition to culminate in one men’s team and one women’s team being crowned the AVPNext zonal champion
  • Athletes must be at least 14 years old
  • Athletes must be a U.S. citizen or have a valid green card
    • Athletes will need to show documentation

Competition Series Format
  • AVPNext has split the country in to eight zones
  • Within each zone, a series of  events are “AVPNext Certified."
  • A minimum of five certified events per zone must occur in order for that zone to receive a wild card bid to Manhattan Beach
  • Zonal Series points will be accumulated on a TEAM-basis at the completion of each certified event
  • Teams will take their best finishes from 80% of the zonal series events to count towards the points total to determine the bid
  • At the completion of the series, one men’s and one women’s team will receive the wild card bid to the 2015 AVP Manhattan Beach Open in mid-August
  • Individual AVP points will be awarded to each athlete at the completion of EVERY zone-certified event.
  • Athletes are eligible to participate in any AVPNext certified event regardless of zone as well as partake in AVP Tour events
    • Athletes are not restricted to only participating within their zone or within the AVPNext program
  • The bid to Manhattan Beach will be given to the TEAM with the highest point total taking the team’s best finishes in 80%  of the zone’s series
    • Players should stay with the same partner for the duration of the Zonal Series


Possible Scenarios for Bid Eligibility

               In the event that a team wins the wild card bid, but:
  • Both members of the winning team decline the bid, the Zone then forfeits its wild card berth into the main draw of the Manhattan Beach Open
  • One member of the winning team declines the bid because one teammate is seeking entry to play the AVP Manhattan Beach with another partner, the Zone then forfeits its wild card berth
  • One member of the winning team cannot accept the bid because one teammate cannot attend, the remaining player can then replace their teammate with another series participants that has played in at least 80% (4 out of 5 events) of the Zonal Series
  • One member from the winning team gets injured and cannot compete, the healthy teammate can replace the injured player with another series participant that has played in at least 80% of the Zonal Series
  • One member from the winning team is a current NCAA student-athlete, the team will retain their bid, however the NCAA student-athlete must pay for his/her own way to Southern California to compete in the Manhattan Beach Open
    • If the student-athlete chooses not to accept the bid, the teammate can choose to compete with another series participant that has played in at least 80% (4 out of 5 events) of the Zonal Series
